Tierra Designs Ltd is a garden design and build company based in Hertfordshire. The company is run by Julian Cant and Simon Chasey who strive to create gardens of original beauty using natural materials that will improve over time. The work of Tierra Designs will not become outdated like many other design trends through the years. Tierra Designs recognises that a garden is a process rather than an object, that is to say a garden is not built to a desired finish and then maintained to that specification, a garden should be a place which moves, changes and grows.
Simon Chasey and Julian Cant met while working for a landscape company in West London, it was there that they began making plans for their own design and build company. Having over 12 years of experience in the field it was only a matter of time before 'Landsculpture' as the partnership was then called was put into practice.
Within the first year of business 'Landsculpture' teamed up with fellow designer Gill Vaughan to win a Silver Gilt medal awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society for the 'Black and White Garden' featured on BBC Gardeners World Live.
By the end of the year it was clear the company was sustainable and this gave Simon and Julian the knowledge that they would be able to make a living from carrying out something they both loved in the manner they desired.
Julian Cant always having a love of gardening studied 'Landscape Management" at Reading University. Upon his graduation he moved to London where he joined a Landscape company. He began his time with this company as a landscape operative and moved on to become the in-house designer.
Simon Chasey's ambition was to design and build gardens for people in London, he then set about realising this ambition. Simon set up 'Landsculpture' as a sole trader. At this time he was living in Wokingham and in order to establish himself in London he made the decision to join a landscape firm in the capital. It was here as 'head of the landscape division' he met Julian and they decided to create the 'Landsculpture' partnership.
It was soon decided that as project value and sizes increased 'Landsculpture' should become a Limited Company. It was here that 'Tierra Designs Ltd' was born.
